Event Details

In collaboration with the NoCo Arts and Cultural District, the main location of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library is honored to have noted Artist and Sculptor Brian Somerville as our special guest.

Brian Somerville sculpts beasts!  Hence the name of his show - the "Nitty Gritty" Art Exhibition - which will be housed in our 2nd Floor Art Gallery of the main library from Wednesday, July 17 to Wednesday, August 21.  On the last night (August 21) of his exhibit, there will be a Closing Reception from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served and it is our hope that the community will come out to show their appreciation for Somerville's work.

Brian Somerville's intricately carved creations (Beasts) are layered with humor and personal symbolism.  Through exhibitions, live sculpting performances and hands-on workshops, his work explores human relationships and the beast within us all!

For the past 15 years, Somerville has also used his skills and knowledge to build a career as a working artist.  He has worked on creative projects at Chicago's Shed Aquarium, the Indianapolis Children's Museum, Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, Great Wolf Lodge, Six Flags, The Grand Ole Opry, Blake Shelton's Old Red Bar, Maker's Mark, Patron, Lexus, and zoos in Columbus, Cincinnati, Louisville, Birmingham and Miami.

Somerville, who resides in Tennessee, currently owns and operates a design and fabrication studio in the Nashville area called The Grit Shop, LLC.  He earned his BFA from the University of Evansville (IN) and his MFA from Florida Atlantic University.

Somerville's sculptures and sketches will be on display and available to the public in the second-floor gallery of the main library building during normal hours of operation.
