Each day for a year, using only her cellphone, Deborah Brownstein took one macro or close-up photograph, then processed it — also on her cellphone — and posted to social media. Her 2017 Louisville Photo Biennial gallery show displays the sweepingly diverse variety of images of her project — from locations all over the Louisville area but also a dozen other states and a Canadian province; from gardens and backyards and beaches and streets; from parks and churches and antique shops and restaurants; from the Kentucky State Fair and airport terminals and grocery stores and more.
Deborah Brownstein was drawn to photography more than 20 years ago by her love of nature. This is her second Biennial show — her first in 2015, "World Within a World," also featured macro and close-up photography and also was exhibited at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library. She is a board member and past president of the Louisville Photographic Society, has won several regional awards (including the 2012 LEO photo contest), has had three books published and images displayed in several settings, including a permanent gallery at the Purdue Technology Center in New Albany, and on a door in Alley Gallery, the Louisville Downtown Partnership’s urban outdoor art exhibition.
